It is 20 years after the pandemic. The country is run by an autocratic government. A new program to subdue women and sap their creativity from them is used to "create more harmonious relationships". Miriam is an independent, smart woman, who is lucky enough to have men around her who refuse to put her through the government's program. However, she begins to realize how precarious her situation is, and secretly plans for her continued survival. 

Gary Sumner always loved music, and how it affects emotions and behavior. He becomes a beloved professor of neuropsychology to do just that. Robert Waters is one of his students, and lucky enough to win the lottery of getting a seat in his class. His teacher exceeds expectations, but slowly Robert realizes that something is not right. He begins to investigate to find the truth. While purely a fictional book, there is a lot of factual research that is interwoven into Sumner's lectures, so the reader will also learn about how music affects the brain which in turn, determines how we interact with those around us.
